Scott McMicken of Dr. Dog and Press On Records will be teaching the first School of Song workshop of the new year! The class starts on January 8th, 2023.

School of Song is an online music school whose courses are structured around student interaction. Classes are taught in a live online classroom setting with online lectures, an in-class songwriting session led by Scott, live Q+A sessions, and more. “Hello my name is Scott McMicken. I am really excited and intrigued by this opportunity to explore the finer points of the songwriting experience in the group setting. At the end of the day that, to me, is ultimately a look at life and self in the broadest sense. To go there communally strikes me as a rare gem of an opportunity! Together we’ll explore questions like… why do we write songs? what truly informs our judgment? how has your own personal genre developed? what role does fear play? who are we serving? what would happen if we tried to write a song no one would hear? what is the purest form of your intention?

I feel that a group situation is a great way to take some chances, enter the hall of mirrors, and together provide for one another a place to experience first-hand that there's nothing to really fear. And that failure can be as much a chance to laugh as it is a devastating blow to the foundation. I'm really excited for this chance to dig in with you all and lead from the vantage point of one with much to learn and much to let go of. This month marks the 1 Year Anniversary of Press On Records! To celebrate we are releasing a new solo album from Scott McMicken entitled Original Love. One year in business and this will be our 11th release to-date.

It's been so nice doing the things we've done to keep Press On floating along over this past year. More than anything, it's been a great place to funnel ideas towards; a place to give things a chance where they can evolve past just ideas. We have learned a lot this year about doing our biz and we've cracked into some innovative new methods of vertical integration. I'm serious - we're cooking on all cylinders over here!

And to commemorate a great year in cassette commerce, we are officially releasing our first digital album. Ha! The manufacturing of cassettes is a bit hard to wrangle at the moment, so until further notice, you'll have to settle for reasonable fidelity and total convenience when checking out Scott's new album called, "Original Love". Greetings! And welcome to the grand unveiling of PRESS ON RECORDS! We here at Press On HQ are thrilled to be off the ground. I, Scott McMicken, and Press On co-founder Leann Cornelius, are developing this label to indulge/celebrate our love of the cassette experience as well as enjoy the focus and commitment that comes with knowing that we can simply "put things out" rather than put them in the closet.

We are so stoked to share our vision with you! All of our pencils are freshly sharpened, we have gallons of head cleaner on standby, and enough cheap coffee for a west coast turnaround.
